Ways to Extend the Lifespan of Genuine Leather Belt

When shopping for belts in a shop or online, you will see many belts that look similar. They give off an elegant shine, have a remarkable sewn finish, robust and sturdy buckle, a stylish belt strap. The resemblances seem to be many until you check the price tag. Some belts will be priced very high, while others that look the same are half-priced. That’s because of the types of leather used.

A genuine leather belt is made from 100% pure animal hide, and it has all the features of fine material. It is also expensive compared to other types of belts. Genuine leather belts are an excellent choice for formal and business attires. However, these belts are hard to maintain.

Because leather belts are costly to replace, you should properly maintain them. There are a few things you can do to help improve the longevity of your leather belts.

  1. Hang Your Belt

One of the simplest ways to extend the life of your leather belt is to hang it up. It is proven that leather lasts longer when allowed to rest. So, it is a good idea to buy a belt hanger.

Continuous curling of the belt for storage purposes and leaving it wrapped around your jeans will increase the tension on the leather as it ages. Over time, it will create cracks and creases.

  1. Use Leather Conditioner

The way you polish your leather shoes, you can also do the same for your leather belt. Polish will help keep the outside of the leather belt soft and shiny. Conditioning your belt will also help keep it protected from exposure to dirt and moisture (the adversaries of genuine leather).

  1. Don’t Over Wear

There are times when people buy a high-quality, expensive belt and wear it over again, all day long, regardless of the occasion. Well, overusing the leather can lead to cracks in just a few months of usage. Although it can be frustrating, you can prevent it by having two or three belts, letting them rest in-between wears, and with general maintenance.

One of the features of high quality belts is that they don't burn and don't give off a foul smell. Although a genuine leather belt is strong and durable, it can only survive years of continuous use and wear if you will maintain it properly.
